Wind-Lens Turbine

Create next-generation energy while protecting the global environment

An innovative wind power technology developed by Kyushu University, namely "WIND-LENS TURBINE". Its special wind-lens effect has overcome problems involved in conventional wind turbines and made it possible to install even in the areas or sites where was considered to be unsuitable. The study is attracting attention from both in and outside Japan and achieving many installation results.

"WIND-LENS TURBINE" is a registered trademark of Windlens Co., Ltd.@

Compact / High Efficiency / Low Noise

The wind-lens effect enables the blades be compact and efficient electric generation.
The compact blade structures and suppression of tip vortices significantly reduce wind turbine noise compared to conventional wind turbines.

Wind-Lens Effect

Compact wind turbines using wind-lens uitilizes the power of "vortices" which increase the wind speed by 1.3 - 1.5 times.
As energy output is proportional to the wind speed V cubed, wind-lens effect itself can generate energy output two to three fold. It catches wind flexibly to the change of wind direction like a weathercock.
(brim-based yaw control).

Easy Installation in any places

The body is only 13 meters high which doesn't apply to the building code.
Its compact structure makes easy installation possible even in the isolated islands or the mountain areas where large wind turbines are not suitable.

Gentle to Circumstances

In high winds, the rotation speed is surpressed by the power generator and in emergencies, mechanical brake stops the wind turbine.
By placing wind-lens around the turbine blades, it gives visual safety. Wind-lens structure is safe against damage from broken blades. Improved visibility can prevent the bird strikes as it is recognized as a building.
Designed to reduce in the tubine noise and blend in with the scenery.

Specifications and System Chart

Grid-Connection Type/ WL 5000 (5kW)

This type connects with commercial electric power and buy electricity from electric power company in case the power generation value by the wind turbine is not enough.

Stand Alone Type /WL 3000 (3kW)

When the power generation value is more than the used amount, the remainder of power generation is stored. When the used amount exceeds its power generation value,
it uses the stored electricity in a storage battery.

Mechanism

Tripple Electricity Production!

The most distinctive feature of WIND-LENS TURBINE is a brimmed diffuser surrounding the turbine blades.
The wind lens has a hollow structure (diffuser) shroud with a broad-ring brim at the exit periphery. The strong vortices created by the diffuser and the brim produce an area of low pressure behind the turbine that essentially sucks the wind inside the diffuser. As a reult, wind speed flowing into the blades is increased by 1.3 to 1.5 times. This is collection-acceleration effect. Energy output is proportional to the wind speed cubed. That means if wind speed can be accelerated, enegy output can i ncrease as it cubed. At the same wind speed, wind-lens tripples turbine output.

Tripple Electricity Production!

Energy output P is proportional to the wind speed V cubed.

Energy output P is proportional to the wind speed V cubed.

If the wind speed entering the turbine is magnified by 1.4 times , tripple energy output can be generated.

Advantages

For the best use of wind power generation, it is desirable to install at the windy areas throughout the year to generate as much electricity as possible.
However, the areas for installation of large-size wind turbines are limited, thus compact, low-noise and highly efficient wind turbines are expected.
Diffuser shroud with a brim, "WIND-LENS TURBINE", is a solution. The wind lens can be quite suitable for installation in a variety of sites.
